Comparison with large-scale shell-model calculations (LSSM) with SR88MHJM interaction, and with available previous experimental values.

NUCLEAR STRUCTURE 96,98,100,102,104,106Pd; calculated energy(first 4+)/energy(first 2+), B(E2)(first 4+)/B(E2)(first 2+), excitation energies and B(E2) up to 10+ in the g.s. band. 104Pd; calculated Eγ and B(E2) for levels up to 26+ in the g.s. band, occupation numbers for first 8+, 10+ and 12+, and second 10+ levels. Large-scale shell-model calculations (LSSM) with SR88MHJM interaction. Comparison with available experimental data.

Investigation of γ softness: Lifetime measurements in 104, 106Ru

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 104Ru(18O, 18O), (18O, 16O), E=57 MeV; measured reaction products, Eγ, Iγ, (particle)γ-coin. 104,106Ru; deduced levels, J, π, T1/2 of low-lying excited states, B(E2), B(M1), shape invariants. Recoil-distance Doppler shift technique. Comparison to mapped-IBM calculation based on a microscopic energy density functional, to the values obtained with Wilets-Jean γ-soft model and to previous experimental data. Results indicate γ-softness and point on traixilaity in 104,106Ru. Cologne plunger device in conjunction with 11 HPGe detectors arranged in backward and forward rings combined with 6 PIN diodes for detecting the backscattered beam-like light recoiling fragments 10 MV FN-Tandem accelerator.

Shape coexistence in 178Hg

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 103Rh(78Kr, 2np), E=354 MeV; measured Eγ, Iγ, Eα, (recoil)γ- and αγ-coin, half-lives of levels in the yrast band by recoil-distance Doppler-shift method (RDDS) using RITU separator, JUROGAM II array, GREAT spectrometer and DPUNS plunger at the K-130 cyclotron facility of the University of Jyvaskyla. Recoil-decay tagging method. 178Hg; deduced high-spin levels, J, π, B(E2), transition quadrupole moments, quadrupole deformation parameter β2 and configuration-mixing features. Comparison with predictions of interacting boson model, mean-field model, and total routhian surface (TRS) calculations. Systematics of energy levels in A=172-204, even-A Hg isotopes. Systematics of transition quadrupole moments and kinetic moments of inertia for yrast states in 178,180,182,184Hg.

RADIOACTIVITY 174,175,176Pt, 177,178,179Au, 177,178,179Hg(α)[from 103Rh(78Kr, X), E=354 MeV]; measured Eα correlated with ions.

Lifetimes of the 4+1 states of 206Po and 204Po: A study of the transition from noncollective seniority-like mode to collectivity

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 197Au(11B, 4n)204Po, E=55 MeV; 198Pt(12C, 4n)206Po, E=65 MeV; measured Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin, level half-lives by γγ(t) fast timing technique using the HORUS spectrometer of the FN Tandem facility at the University of Cologne. 204,206Po; deduced levels, J, π, B(E2) for the first 4+ states in both the isotopes, and for the first 2+ in 204Po, configurations; discussed transition from single-particle seniority like mode to collective mode. Comparison with two-state mixing calculations. Systematics of energies, R4/2 ratios, B(E2) and magnetic moments for the yrast levels in 200,202,204,206,208,210Po.

Low collectivity of the 2+1 state of 212Po

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 208Pb(12C, 8Be)212Po, E=64 MeV; measured Eγ, Iγ, (particle)γ-coin, half-life of the first 2+ state by recoil-distance Doppler-shift (RDDS) method at the FN Tandem facility of the University of Cologne. 212Po; deduced levels, J, π, B(E2). Comparisons with levels and B(E2) of 210Po and 210Pb, and with theoretical calculations using shell model. Systematics of B(E2) values for the first 2+ states in 20Ne, 44Ti, 52Ti, 136Te, 212Po, nuclei with two valence protons and two valence neutrons.
