Lifetime measurements in low yrast states and spectroscopic peculiarities in 182Os

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 174Yb(12C, 4n)182Os, E=66 MeV; measured Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin. 182Os; deduced levels, J, π, T1/2 of yrast 2+, 4+ and 6+ excited states, B(E2), quadrupole deformation parameter. Comparison to interacting boson model 1 (IBM-1) based calculations. Systematics of level energies for Os isotopes - 180,182,184,186Os and for N=106 isotones Hf, W, Os, Pt, Hg. Obtained values support the interpretation of 182Os as a rigid rotor. HORUS spectrometer equipped with 10 LaBr3(Ce) scintillators and 8 HPGe detectors at Cologne 10 MV FN-Tandem accelerator.

RADIOACTIVITY 206Po(IT)[from successive EC decay of 206Rn(EC)-206At(EC) produced in 194Pt(16O, 4n)206Rn, E=84 MeV]; measured X-rays, Eγ, Iγ, (X-rays)γ-coin, γγγ-coin. 206Po; deduced levels, J, π, T1/2 of the 4+ and 6+ excited states, B(E2). Lifetimes extracted via the generalized centroid difference (GCD) method. Systematics of the B(E2) for even-even Po isotopes with N<126. HORUS spectrometer consisting of 8 coaxial HPGe and 11 LaBr detectors at the FN-Tandem facility (Institute for Nuclear Physics, University of Cologne).

Nature of seniority symmetry breaking in the semimagic nucleus 94Ru

RADIOACTIVITY 95mPd(β+p)[from 9Be(124Xe, F), E=850 MeV/nucleon];measured Eγ, Iγ, Ep, Ip, γγ-coin, pγ-coin. 94Ru; deduced T1/2 of low-lying excited states, B(E2). Comparison to shell-model calculations. Ions were separated with FRS at GSI and implanted in the Advanced Implantation Detector Array (AIDA), composed of three double-sided silicon strip detectors (DSSSDs) situated at the center of the DEcay SPECtroscopy (DESPEC) setup, comprised of a hybrid array of six triple cluster high-purity germanium (HPGe) detectors and 36 LaBr3(Ce) detectors of the FAst TIMing Array (FATIMA).

Investigation of γ softness: Lifetime measurements in 104, 106Ru

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 104Ru(18O, 18O), (18O, 16O), E=57 MeV; measured reaction products, Eγ, Iγ, (particle)γ-coin. 104,106Ru; deduced levels, J, π, T1/2 of low-lying excited states, B(E2), B(M1), shape invariants. Recoil-distance Doppler shift technique. Comparison to mapped-IBM calculation based on a microscopic energy density functional, to the values obtained with Wilets-Jean γ-soft model and to previous experimental data. Results indicate γ-softness and point on traixilaity in 104,106Ru. Cologne plunger device in conjunction with 11 HPGe detectors arranged in backward and forward rings combined with 6 PIN diodes for detecting the backscattered beam-like light recoiling fragments 10 MV FN-Tandem accelerator.

Lifetime measurements in the tungsten isotopes 176, 178, 180W

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 164Dy(16O, 4n)176W, E=80 MeV; 172Yb(9Be, 3n)178W, E=40 MeV; 181Ta(p, 2n)180W, E=16 MeV; measured E(ce), Eγ, (ce)γ-coin, (ce)γγ-coin, γγ-coin, level T1/2 by (ce)γ(t) fast-timing method, and by recoil-distance Doppler-shift method using Cologne iron-free Orange spectrometer for conversion electrons, Cologne HORUS spectrometer for γ radiation, and Cologne coincidence plunger setup at the 10 MV FN Tandem accelerator of IKP-Cologne. 176,178,180W; deduced levels, J, π, T1/2, B(E2) of yrast positive-parity states up to 10+ for 176W and up to 8+ for 178,180W. Comparison with previous available experimental results, and with IBM-1 model calculations. Experimental and theoretical (by IBM-1 model with SU(3) and X(5) limits) systematics of excitation energies, deformation parameter β, quadrupole moment, B(E2), E(first 4+)/E(first 2+), B(E2)(first 4+)/B(E2)(first 2+) for 168,170,172,174,176,178,180,182,184,186W.

Lifetimes and structures of low-lying negative-parity states of 209Po

RADIOACTIVITY 209At(EC), (β+)[from successive α and ϵ decay of 213Fr, produced in 206Pb(11B, 4n)213Fr, E=56 MeV at the FN-Tandem facility of University of Cologne]; measured Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin, level half-lives by γγ(t) fast-timing method and analyzed by generalized centroid difference (GCD) method using eight HPGe detectors and 12 LaBr scintillators, with six of these placed inside BGO anti-Compton shields. 209Po; deduced levels, J, π, B(M1), B(E2). Comparison with shell-model calculation using a microscopic effective interaction derived from the realistic CD-Bonn potential.

NUCLEAR STRUCTURE 209Po; calculated proton single-particle and neutron single-hole energies, levels, J, π, B(M1), B(E2), magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole moments, orbital composition and one-neutron pick-up spectroscopic factors of selected states, E2 matrix elements. Shell-model calculations with a realistic effective interaction derived from the CD-Bonn nucleon-nucleon potential within the framework of Q-box folded-diagram approach. Comparison with experimental data.

Systematics of B(M1) strengths for N=80 isotones of 132Te, 134Xe, 136Ba, 138Ce and 140Nd, and compared with theoretical predictions.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 208Pb(12C, 8Be)212Po, E=64 MeV; measured Eγ, Iγ, (particle)γ-coin, half-life of the first 2+ state by recoil-distance Doppler-shift (RDDS) method at the FN Tandem facility of the University of Cologne. 212Po; deduced levels, J, π, B(E2). Comparisons with levels and B(E2) of 210Po and 210Pb, and with theoretical calculations using shell model. Systematics of B(E2) values for the first 2+ states in 20Ne, 44Ti, 52Ti, 136Te, 212Po, nuclei with two valence protons and two valence neutrons.

RADIOACTIVITY 148,149,150Cs(β-), (β-n)[from U(p, X), E=1.4 GeV at ISOLDE-CERN]; measured reaction products, Eγ, Iγ, βγ-, γγ-coin, half-lives of ground states of 148,149,150Cs, %Pn for the decay of 149Cs, half-lives of levels in 149Ba and 148Ce by βγγ(t). 149Ba; deduced levels, β feedings, multipolarities, half-lives. 148Ce; deduced half-life of the first 2+ state. Comparison with previous experimental half-lives, and with theoretical calculations.

Cross-shell excitations from the fp shell: Lifetime measurements in 61Zn

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 40Ca(24Mg, n2p), E=77 MeV; 58Ni(α, n), E=19 MeV; measured Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin, γγ(θ), level half-lives by recoil-distance Doppler-shift (RDDS) method using Cologne plunger device and an array of 12 HPGe detectors, and by γγ(t) electronic fast timing technique using eight HPGe detectors and eight LaBr3:Ce detectors at the Tandem accelerator facility of the University of Cologne. 61Zn; deduced high-spin levels, nano-second isomers, J, π, multipolarities, mixing ratios, B(E2), B(E1), B(M1), B(M2), configurations, deformation. Comparison with shell-model calculations using jj44b, GXPF1, GXPF1A, and GXPF1Br+VMU interactions.

High-spin structures in 132Xe and 133Xe and evidence for isomers along the N=79 isotones

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 208Pb(136Xe, X)132Xe/133Xe, E=6.84 MeV/nucleon from the PIAVE+ALPI accelerator complex at LNL-Legnaro; 198Pt(136Xe, X)132Xe/133Xe, E=6.25 MeV/nucleon from the LBNL cyclotron facility; 130Te(α, nγ), (α, 2nγ), E=19 MeV from Cologne FN Tandem accelerator; measured Eγ, Iγ, γγ-, (particle)γ-coin using Advanced GAmma Tracking Array (AGATA) in a demonstrator configuration, and magnetic spectrometer PRISMA for particle identification, (particle)γ-coin using Gammasphere array and CHICO gas-detector array, γγ(θ) using HORUS array at Cologne. 132,133Xe; deduced high-spin levels, J, π, half-life of a micro-sec isomer in 133Xe with Jπ=(23/2+), multipolarities, mixing ratios. Comparison with shell-model calculations using PQM130 and SN100PN interactions. Systematics of level energies in N=78 and 79 isotones from Z=50 to 64, and even-A A=120-136 Xe isotopes.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 208Pb(12C, 2α)212Po, E=62 MeV; measured Eγ, Iγ, (particle)γ-, γγ-coin, enriched target, level half-lives by DSAM and line-shape analysis using an array of 12 HPGe detectors for γ detection, and solar cell array for reaction products at FN Tandem facility of the University of Cologne. 212Po; deduced levels, J, π, B(M1), B(E2) of second and third 2+ states as candidates for one-phonon mixed-symmetry states (MSS). Comparison with simple single-j shell model calculation. 211Po; observed γ rays. 209,210Po, 208Pb, 209Bi; reaction products measured in coincidence with γ rays.
