Strength of octupole correlations in the actinides: contrasting behavior in the isotones 237U and 239Pu

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 239Pu(207Pb, 207Pb'), E=1300 MeV; measured Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin following Coulomb excitation. 238U(207Pb, 208Pb), E=1400 MeV; measured Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin. 239Pu, 237U deduced high-spin levels, J, π, octupole correlation strength.
