Systematics of energies of first 2+ and 4+ states in even-even Z=32-40, N=50-60 nuclei. 86,88Ge; calculated potential energy surfaces in (β2, γ) plane using particle number variation after projection (PN-VAP) approach. Discussed triaxiality in even-even Ge nuclei based upon the observation of a tentative 3+ state in 86Ge. Comparison with shell-model, and symmetry-conserving configuration mixing Gogny (SCCM) model.
