Mass, Spectroscopy, and Two-Neutron Decay of 16Be

RADIOACTIVITY 16Be(2n) [from 1H(17B, 2p), E=277 MeV/nucleon]; measured decay products, En, In; deduced resonance energies, J, π, Q-value. Comparison with calculations incorporating the evolution of the wave function during the decay as a genuine three-body process reproduced the principal characteristics of the neutron-neutron energy spectra for both levels, indicating that the ground state exhibits a strong spatially compact dineutron component. The 15 cm thick liquid hydrogen target of MINOS, the BigRIPS fragment separator, the Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory of the RIKEN Nishina Center.

Proton and neutron exchange as a prelude to fusion at near-barrier energies

Radioactive beams of K and Ar ions were produced by the coupled cyclotron facility at MSU-NSCL and thermalized in a linear gas stopper before being reaccelerated by the ReA3 linac.

Using spin alignment of inelastically excited nuclei in fast beams to assign spins: The spectroscopy of 13O as a test case

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 9Be(13O, 13O'), E=69.5 MeV/nucleon, [secondary 13O beam from 9Be(16O, X), E=150 MeV/nucleon primary reaction, followed by separation of fragments using A1900 fragment separator at NSCL-MSU facility]; measured charged particles, angular distribution of protons in 1p- and 2p-decays of the excited states of 13O using High Resolution Array (HiRA) of 14 ΔE-E (Si-CsI(Tl)) telescopes; deduced invariant-mass distributions of the p+12N and 2p+11C events from the decay of 13O excited states. 13O; deduced levels, resonances, J, π, Γ, E(p), possibly rotational bands built on deformed cluster configurations predicted by antisymmetrized molecular dynamics (AMD) calculations. Comparison of p(θ) data with DWBA using FRESCO code, and level structure of 13O with ab initio no-core shell model with continuum (NCSMC), and with the structure of 13B mirror nucleus.

Comparison with shell-model calculations, and with previous measurements. Systematics of energies of first and second 2+ states in 102Sn to 120Sn isotopes.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 1H(89Se, np), (91Br, 2p), (94Br, n2p), (95Br, 2p), E=270 MeV/nucleon, [secondary 89Se, 91,94,95Br beams from 9Be(238U, F), E=345 MeV/nucleon using BigRIPS fragment separator at RIBF-RIKEN facility]; measured particle spectra using time projection chamber (TPC) of the MINOS ensemble, and Doppler-corrected gamma spectra, Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin using DALI2 array of 186 NaI(Tl) detectors. 88,90,92,94Se; deduced levels, J, π, triaxiality; calculated potential energy surfaces for g.s., first and second 2+ states. Comparison with self-consistent beyond-mean-field calculations using Gogny D1S interaction. Systematics of first 2+ states and E(first 4+)/E(first 2+) for N=50-60 even-A Zr, Sr, Kr, and Se isotopes.

Triaxiality of neutron-rich 84, 86, 88Ge from low-energy nuclear spectra

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 1H(85Ge, np), (87As, 2p), (89As, 2p), E≈270 MeV/nucleon reduced to ≈70 MeV/nucleon through the target, [85Ge, 87As and 89As secondary beams from 9Be(238U, F), E=345 MeV primary reaction at RIBF-RIKEN facility]; measured yields of fission fragments using time-of-flight method and BigRIPS magnetic spectrometer, particle spectra using ZeroDegree spectrometer and Doppler-corrected Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin using DALI2 array of NaI detectors. 84,86,88Ge; deduced levels, J, π. Systematics of energies of first 2+ and 4+ states in even-even Z=32-40, N=50-60 nuclei. 86,88Ge; calculated potential energy surfaces in (β2, γ) plane using particle number variation after projection (PN-VAP) approach. Discussed triaxiality in even-even Ge nuclei based upon the observation of a tentative 3+ state in 86Ge. Comparison with shell-model, and symmetry-conserving configuration mixing Gogny (SCCM) model.
