Hexadecapole strength in the rare isotopes 74, 76Kr

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 1H(74Kr, 74Kr'), (76Kr, 76Kr'), E(cm)=100 MeV, [secondary 74,76Kr beams from 9Be(78Kr, X), E=150 MeV/nucleon primary reaction, followed by separation of fragments using A1900 separator]; measured Doppler-corrected Eγ, Iγ, (particle)γ-coin using NSCL-MSU using NSCL/Ursinus Liquid Hydrogen (LH2) Target, eight GRETINA modules of 36-fold segmented HPGe detectors for γ radiation, and S800 spectrograph for projectile-like reaction residues. 74,76Kr; deduced levels, Jπ, β2 for the first 2+ state and β4 and B(E4)(W.u.) for the first 4+ state from inelastic proton scattering experiments in inverse kinematics. Comparison to coupled-channels calculations, and nuclear density functional theory (DFT) calculations using the Skyrme SkM* and UNEDF1 energy density functionals, covariant NL3* and DD-PC1 energy density functionals. Systematics and theoretical predictions of β2, β4 and B(E4)(W.u.) for 74,76,78,80,82,84,86Kr.

Investigation of octupole collectivity near the A = 72 shape-transitional point

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 1H(76Kr, p), (74Kr, p), (72Se, p), E(cm)≈ 100 MeV/nucleon; measured Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin, angular distribution; deduced levels, J, π, B(E2), B(E3). Comparison to theoretical calculations performed in the framework of the configuration-mixing sdf IBM mapping approach. Systematics of B(E3) transition strength in Kr, Se and Ge isotopes. Established two regions of distinct octupole strengths with a sudden strength increase around the A = 72 prolate-oblate-triaxial shape-transitional point. Ursinus liquid hydrogen target coupled to 8 GRETINA modules, containing four, 36-fold segmented HPGe detectors each. Beams produced from a 150-MeV/nucleon 78Kr primary beam in projectile fragmentation on 9Be target at Coupled Cyclotron Facility NSCL.

Search for in-band transitions in the candidate superdeformed band in 28Si

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 28Si(α, α'), E=130 MeV beam from K140 AVF cyclotron at the RCNP-Osaka; measured Eα, Iα using the Grand Raiden spectrometer, Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin using CAGRA array of 12 HPGe clover detectors and four LaBr3 detectors. 28Si; deduced levels, J, π, bands; analyzed 4+ member in search of a superdeformed (SD) band, branching ratios of γ rays from the 4+ member, and B(E2); based on comparison of experimental B(E2) values with predicted B(E2) values from antisymmetrized molecular dynamics (AMD) calculations for a set of identified states in 28Si, strongly rejected hypothesized superdeformed band in this nuclide.

ATOMIC MASSES 48,49Ar, 52,53,54,55,56,57Sc, 56,57,58,59Ti, 57,58,59,60,61,62V, 64,65Cr, 67,68Mn, 67,68,69,70Fe; measured time of flight, ΔE, Bπ, and mass excess using the A1900 fragment separator and the S800 spectrograph for particle identification at the NSCL-MSU facility; deduced S(2n), and Dn(Z, A)=S(n)(Z, A+1)-S(n)(Z, A), related to pairing gap. Comparison with available evaluated data in AME2016, and with shell model calculations using GX1A Hamiltonian for Sc isotopes. Discussion of upper-Z limit for N=34 subshell closure and lower-Z limit for N=40 subshell, and impact on electron-capture cooling in neutron star crusts. Isotopes produced in 9Be(82Se, X), E=140 MeV/nucleon reaction.

Reexamination of isoscalar giant resonances in 12C and 93Nb through 6Li scattering

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 12C, 93Nb(6Li, 6Li'), E=100 MeV/nucleon; measured 6Li spectra, double-differential σ, and angular distributions for the isoscalar giant monopole resonances (ISGMRs) using the high-resolution Grand Raiden magnetic spectrometer at the RCNP-Osaka facility; deduced contribution of different angular momentum transfers to differential σ, energies, widths and E0 strength distribution of GMRs, EWSR, influence on GMRs due to nuclear structure. Angular distribution data fitted using multipole-decomposition analysis (MDA) and DWBA methods. Comparison with antisymmetrized molecular dynamics (AMD) calculations, and with previous experimental data.

Data from 12C 14N present as contaminants used for energy calibration. 86Br; deduced levels, L-transfers, Gamow-Teller strength distributions. 86Kr; calculated electron capture rates at T=10 GK using the deduced Gamow-Teller strength distributions. Comparison with shell-model and quasiparticle random-phase approximation (QRPA) calculations. Z=26-41, N=75-93; calculated electron capture rates for 78 nuclides near N=50 and Z=28 (see 2018Ti02) using quasiparticle random-phase approximation (QRPA), with Jπ assignments made for ground states of some nuclides using Gallagher-Moszkowski (GM) rule. Relevance to astrophysical simulations of core-collapse supernovae.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 2H(24O, 25O), E=83.4 MeV/nucleon, [secondary 24O beam from 9Be(48Ca, X) primary reaction using A1900 fragment separator at NSCL-MSU facility]; measured 24O particles by a position and energy sensitive charged particle detector and separated based on energy loss and time-of-flight, and neutrons from 25O decay by the MoNA-LISA detector array. 25O; deduced two-body (24O+n) decay energy spectrum by invariant-mass spectroscopy technique, neutron-unbound ground state, L-transfer, asymptotic normalization coefficients, cross section and width of a possible 1/2+ resonance above the ground state. Comparisons with previous experimental results, and with theoretical calculations using complex-energy Gamow Shell Model (GSM) and Density Matrix Renormalization Group (DMRG) method with a finite-range two-body interaction.

Time-of-flight mass measurements of neutron-rich chromium isotopes up to N=40 and implications for the accreted neutron star crust

ATOMIC MASSES 59,60,61,62,63,64Cr; measured mass excesses by time-of-flight (TOF) method using 9Be(82Se, X), E=140 MeV/nucleon for production of Si to Zn isotopes and A1900 fragment separator and S800 spectrograph for fragment separation and analysis at NSCL-MSU. TOF versus mass contour plot obtained for Ar (A=44-49), K (A=47-52), Ca (A=49-55), Sc (A=52-58), Ti (A=54-60), V (A=57-63), Cr (A=59-66), Mn (A=62-70) and Fe (A=64-71) isotopes. Analyzed S(2n) trends and compared to AME-2012. Comparison with state-of-the-art shell-model calculations using modified Lenzi-Nowacki-Poves-Sieja interaction in the fp shell, and with AME-2012 data. Mass of 64Cr used in accreted neutron star crust network calculations, and deduced reduction in strength depth of electron-capture heating from A=64 isobaric chain.
