Determination of the 209Bi(n, γ) cross section using the NICE detector

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 209Bi(n, γ), E=thermal (25 milli-eV) and kT=30 keV; measured charged particles and γ rays using the Neutron Induced Charge-particle Emission NICE detector of plastic scintillator, coupled to two photomultiplier tubes (PMT) at the TRIGA-Mark II reactor of Johannes Gutenberg-University, Mainz; deduced partial capture σ(E), resonance integral, and the Maxwellian average cross section at stellar energy of KT=30 keV. 209Bi(n, γ), kT=5-100 keV; calculated total capture cross-sections using the ENDF data libraries; deduced Maxwellian average cross section. Discussed potential of the new detection technique using NICE detector system.

Comparison with results in evaluated in KADoNiS v0.3 and ENDF/B-VII.1 libraries. Relevance to production of gallium in the weak s process in massive stars.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 63Cu(n, γ), E=75 eV to 500 keV; measured Eγ, Iγ, time of flight, σ(E) by activation with a quasistellar neutron spectrum at JRC-Geel, and the energy dependence of the cross section measured with an isotopically enriched 63Cu sample placed in the center of the DANCE detector array at LANSCE-LANL facility; deduced Maxwellian-averaged cross sections for the whole temperature range relevant for different scenarios of the s-process nucleosynthesis. Comparison with previous experimental measurements and with evaluated cross sections from TENDL-2015.
