Comparison with previous experimental results.

Improved precision on the experimental E0 decay branching ratio of the Hoyle state

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 12C(p, p'), E=10.5 MeV; measured electron-positron pairs for E0 transition from the first excited 0+ Hoyle state, and for E2 transition from the first 2+ state, Eγ, (ce)(ce)- and (ce)γ-coin, γ(θ), E(p), I(p) using the superconducting solenoid Super-e pair spectrometer and Si(Li) detector array for electrons and positrons, HPGe detector for γ radiation, and ANU BALiN double sided silicon strip detector array for scattered protons at the 14 UD pelletron tandem accelerator of Australian National University; deduced E0 branching ratio ΓE0π/Γ, reduction in radiative width. Comparison with previous experimental measurements; calculated 3α reaction rate within the temperature range of helium burning red giant stars using the NACRE library value. Possible impact on astrophysical calculations.

Comparison with shell-model calculations using JUN45 and jj44b interactions.

Possible deformation evolution in the π i13/2 structure of 171Re

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 120Sn(55Mn, 4n), E=257 MeV; measured Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin, three- and higher-fold coincidences, angular correlation ratios using Gammasphere array at ATLAS-ANL facility. 171Re; deduced high-spin levels, J, π, multipolarity, rotational bands, alignments, configurations, B(M1)/B(E2), moment of inertia plots. No evidence found for wobbling mode of excitation. Comparison with cranked shell-model calculations.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 128Te(48Ca, 4n), (48Ca, 5n), E=207 MeV; measured Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin, DSAM using Gammasphere Spectrometer. 171,172Hf; deduced half-lives, transition quadrupole moments for enhanced deformation (ED) and triaxial strongly-deformed (TSD) bands, dynamic moment of inertia plots. Comparison of transition quadrupole moments of ED and TSD bands in 163Lu, 168,171,172,173,174,175Hf. Cranking calculations using Ultimate Cranker code.
