Search for evidence of rotational cluster bands in 18O

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 12C(7Li, p)18O*, E=44.0 MeV; measured reaction products, recoil protons, (18O break-up particle)α-coin using the Q3D magnetic spectrograph, and the Birmingham large-angular-coverage DSSD array at the Maier-Leibnitz Laboratory (MLL) in Garching. 18O; deduced levels, J, π, total widths, Γα/Γ branching ratios, barrier penetration, θα2, bands, no evidence of consistent (14C+α or 12C+2n+α) cluster structure for any of the bands. Comparison with previous experimental results.

Extracting the spectral signature of α clustering in 44, 48, 52Ti using a continuous wavelet transform

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 4He(40Ca, α)44Ti*, E=180 MeV; 4He(44Ca, α)48Ti*, E=207 MeV; 4He(48Ca, α)52Ti*, E=234 MeV; measured scattered α particles, Eα, Iα, differential σ using double-sided silicon strip detectors at the GANIL radioactive beam facility; deduced continuous wavelet transform (CWT) of the measured spectra, and compared with simulated spectra using the simplified R matrix for spinless particles. 44Ti; deduced high-lying α-clustered levels J, π and compared with previous measurements. Present technique combined thick target inverse kinematics (TTIK) approach and the resonant scattering measurements with the continuous wavelet transform (CWT).

Experimental investigation of α condensation in light nuclei

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 12C(16O, 28Si)4He/6Li/7Li/7Be/9Be/10B/11B/11C/12C/13C/11N/12C/15O/15N/16O/F/Ne/20Ne/24Mg/28Si, E=160, 280, 400 MeV from the K800 cyclotron at the LNS-Catania accelerator facility; measured reaction product yields, σ, Eα, Iα using the Charged Heavy Ion Mass and Energy Resolving Array (CHIMERA) and Femtoscope Array for Correlation and Spectroscopy (FARCOS); deduced raw α-particle multiplicity, particle-identification plots (PIDs), interaction time plot, distribution of α-particle energies, excitation functions, Q values for different reaction channels, branching ratios for the 7-α breakup modes. Experiments aimed at search for α-gas states in 12C, 16O, 20Ne, 24Mg, 28Si. Results described by a hybrid of sequential decays and multiparticle breakup mechanisms, as no signatures for α condensation observed. Comparison of measured yields to the extended Hauser-Feshbach (EHF), and comparison of 7-α particle states to Fermi breakup model predictions.

Evidence for 15O + α resonance structures in 19Ne via direct measurement

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 4He(15O, α), E=28.5 MeV, [secondary 15O beam from 1H(15N, 15O), E=80 MeV primary reaction at LNL-XTU, Legnaro tandem Van de Graaff accelerator; measured Eα, Iα using a double-sided silicon strip detector (DSSSD), absolute differential cross sections. 19Ne; deduced levels, resonances, J, π, Γα, total Γ, partial decay branches, reduced α-widths, 15O+α rotational band, cluster structure using R-matrix analysis with AZURE2 code. Comparison with previous experimental results, and with potential model calculation using the well-known 16O+α cluster band configurations. Relevance to α branching ratio in the astrophysical reaction rate for high-spin near-threshold resonances.

Thick-target inverse kinematics (TTIK) and R-matrix analyses. 18F; deduced levels, resonances, J, π, widths, partial widths, candidates for α-cluster states, rotational bands. 14N(α, α), (α, p); 16O(d, d), (d, α); analyzed previous σ data by R-matrix. Comparison with previous experimental results, evaluated data, and theoretical calculations.
