10Be clustering states investigation at LNS

RADIOACTIVITY 10Be(α) [from 9Be(18O, X)10Be/16C/8Li/13B, E=55 MeV/nucleon]; measured decay products; deduced cluster structure of 10Be was investigated by analysing the 4He+6He decay channel. The FRIBs@LNS (in-Flight Radioactive Ions Beams at LNS) facility, INFN-LNS, in Catania (Italy).

Investigating γ-ray decay of excited 12C levels with a multifold coincidence analysis

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 12C(p, p'), E=24 MeV; 12C(α, α'), E=64 MeV; measured E(p), I(p), E(α), I(α), recoiling 12C, Eγ, Iγ, pγ- and αγ-coin, (particle)γ(θ) using 4π CHIMERA multidetector of 1192 Si-CsI(Tl) telescopes to detect charged particles and γ rays at INFN-LNS-Catania. 12C; deduced levels, Hoyle state, decay probabilities, 3-α decay channel, 2γ-ray decay probability yield of the 9.64-MeV level in 12C, small γ-ray decay branches by using the complete redundant measurement (CRM) method. Comparison with previous experimental results.

Barrier distributions of the 24Mg + 90, 92Zr systems: Influence of energy dissipation

Comparison with predictions of the standard coupled channels calculations, and with coupled channels plus random matrix theory (CC+RMT).

Experimental investigation of α condensation in light nuclei

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 12C(16O, 28Si)4He/6Li/7Li/7Be/9Be/10B/11B/11C/12C/13C/11N/12C/15O/15N/16O/F/Ne/20Ne/24Mg/28Si, E=160, 280, 400 MeV from the K800 cyclotron at the LNS-Catania accelerator facility; measured reaction product yields, σ, Eα, Iα using the Charged Heavy Ion Mass and Energy Resolving Array (CHIMERA) and Femtoscope Array for Correlation and Spectroscopy (FARCOS); deduced raw α-particle multiplicity, particle-identification plots (PIDs), interaction time plot, distribution of α-particle energies, excitation functions, Q values for different reaction channels, branching ratios for the 7-α breakup modes. Experiments aimed at search for α-gas states in 12C, 16O, 20Ne, 24Mg, 28Si. Results described by a hybrid of sequential decays and multiparticle breakup mechanisms, as no signatures for α condensation observed. Comparison of measured yields to the extended Hauser-Feshbach (EHF), and comparison of 7-α particle states to Fermi breakup model predictions.

Experimental Study of the Pygmy Dipole Resonance in the 68Ni Nucleus

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 9Be(70Zn, x), E=40 MeV/nucleon; measured fragmentation products, mainly 66,67,68Ni; 12C(p, x), E=24 MeV; measured protons, γ-rays; deduced Q-value spectrum, deduced total Doppler-corrected γ-ray energy spectrum in coincidence with 66,67,68Ni detected with CsI(Tl) of CHIMERA in coincidence with inelastic and with elastic channels, not normalized σ(θ), yield of Pygmy Dipole Resonance (PDR) obtained using subtraction of other channels. NEWCHIM-CHIMERA Collaboration standard tagging system, which allows event-by-event measurement of the isotopic composition.

Transfer Cross Sections at Near-barrier Energy for the 24Mg + 90, 92Zr Systems

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 90,92Zr(24Mg, x), E=76 MeV; measured using multidetector system ICARE with start signal bz the Microchannel Plate (MCP) and stop signal by one of Si detectors placed at polar angle 142, used also to measure the energy of reaction products, and beam energy monitored by Si detectors at 30; deduced E-ToF spectra of backscattered ions; measured stripping reactions involving up up to 4 nucleons and reaction channels up to 2 nucleons picked up (i.e. the product mass from A-6 to A+2, A is the target mass); deduced transfer σtr(θ) and lacking structure of distribution of barrier heights, the cross sections are considerably smaller than those for 20Ne projectile. Preliminary.
