Identification of sub-μ isomeric states in the odd-odd nucleus 178Au

RADIOACTIVITY 178Au(IT), (α)[from 92Mo(88Sr, np)178Au, E=381 MeV, followed by separation of fragments using RITU separator and implanted into a double sided silicon detectors (DSSD), placed side by side of the GREAT spectrometer at the University of Jyvaskyla]; measured Eγ, Iγ, Eα, Iα, (recoil)γ- and γγ-coin, half-lives of two sub-microsec isomers, total conversion coefficients. 178Au; deduced levels, J, π, isomers, α branching ratios, multipolarities, E2/M1 mixing ratios, B(E1), B(E2), B(M1). 174,175,176,177,178Pt, 177,179Au, 178,179Hg(α); measured Eα within 7 s of implantation of evaporation residues in the DSSD.

Identification of a 66 μs isomeric state in 175Ir

RADIOACTIVITY 175Ir(IT)[from 92Mo(88Sr, αp), E=381 MeV, followed by separation of fragments using RITU separator at the University of Jyvaskyla K130 cyclotron facility]; measured Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin, and isomer half-life by isomer tagging technique using the JUROGAM-II array. 175Ir; deduced levels, J, π, isomer, total conversion coefficients, multipolarities, B(E1), B(M1). Comparison with the decay of a 326-ns, 3/2- isomer in 179Au.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 136Xe(p, x), (12C, x), E = 1 GeV/nucleon; measured fragment yield vs charge using Forward MUSIC (IH2) and a scintillator of TOF wall; calculated, simulated element production σ, total multiplicity data using GEANT4 with intranuclear cascade code INCL++ ver 6-0, fast collision and deexcitation ABRA and three deexcitation codes ABLA07, GEMINI++ and SMM.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 176Yb(48Ca, x), E=5 MeV/nucleon; 208Pb(64Ni, x), (48Ca, x), E=5 MeV/nucleon; 238U(64Ni, x), (48Ca, x), E=5 MeV/nucleon; calculated nuclear density evolution using the Constrained Molecular Dynamics model with constraint on the incompressibility modulus of nuclear matter K0=240-260 MeV; deduced that the density dependence of symmetry energy influences the fusion probability only weakly.

Constraining the equation of state of nuclear matter from fusion hindrance in reactions leading to the production of superheavy elements

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 208Pb(64Ni, X)272Ds*; 208Pb(48Ca, X)256No*; 186W(64Ni, X)250No*, E=5 MeV/nucleon; deduced constraint on the incompressibility of the equation of state of nuclear matter, on the stiffness of symmetric nuclear matter, and on the density-dependence of the symmetry energy from the analysis of experimental fusion probabilities; calculated nucleonic density contours for the central collision 64Ni+186W. Fusion hindrance mechanism in the production of superheavy elements investigated using the Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck equation.
