Identification of sub-μ isomeric states in the odd-odd nucleus 178Au

RADIOACTIVITY 178Au(IT), (α)[from 92Mo(88Sr, np)178Au, E=381 MeV, followed by separation of fragments using RITU separator and implanted into a double sided silicon detectors (DSSD), placed side by side of the GREAT spectrometer at the University of Jyvaskyla]; measured Eγ, Iγ, Eα, Iα, (recoil)γ- and γγ-coin, half-lives of two sub-microsec isomers, total conversion coefficients. 178Au; deduced levels, J, π, isomers, α branching ratios, multipolarities, E2/M1 mixing ratios, B(E1), B(E2), B(M1). 174,175,176,177,178Pt, 177,179Au, 178,179Hg(α); measured Eα within 7 s of implantation of evaporation residues in the DSSD.

Identification of a 66 μs isomeric state in 175Ir

RADIOACTIVITY 175Ir(IT)[from 92Mo(88Sr, αp), E=381 MeV, followed by separation of fragments using RITU separator at the University of Jyvaskyla K130 cyclotron facility]; measured Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin, and isomer half-life by isomer tagging technique using the JUROGAM-II array. 175Ir; deduced levels, J, π, isomer, total conversion coefficients, multipolarities, B(E1), B(M1). Comparison with the decay of a 326-ns, 3/2- isomer in 179Au.

α-spectroscopy studies of the new nuclides 165Pt and 170Hg

RADIOACTIVITY 165Pt(α)[new nuclide from 92Mo(78Kr, 5n), E=418 MeV]; 170Hg(α)[new nuclide from 96Ru(78Kr, 4n), E=390, 418 MeV]; 167Pt(α)[from 96Ru(78Kr, 3nα), E=390, 418 MeV]; 166Pt(α)[from 96Ru(78Kr, 4n), E=390, 418 MeV]; 161,162,163Os, 158,159W, 157Ta, 154,155Hf(α)[from α-decay chains of 165Pt, 167Pt and 170Hg]; measured Eα, Iα, α-α correlated plots, half-lives of ground states, production cross sections of parent nuclei using the MARA spectrometer with multiwire proportional counter for recoil identification, and double-sided silicon strip detector for α detection at the University of Jyvaskyla accelerator facility; deduced Q(α), reduced α-decay widths. 165Pt, 170Hg(2p); no evidence found for this decay mode in this experiment, although, Q(2p) is positive for both the nuclides. Systematics of Qα and Q(2p) values for A=156-180, and α-decay reduced widths for N=83-102, for W, Os, Pt and Hg isotopes.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 106Cd(60Ni, 2p), (60Ni, 2n2p), E=270 MeV; measured Eγ, Iγ, γγ-, (recoils)γγ-coin, Recoils-α-α-α-γ correlated spectra, γγ(θ)(DCO) using RITU separator, GREAT spectrometer and JUROGAM array at Jyvaskyla accelerator laboratory. 162,164W; deduced high-spin levels, J, π, bands, multipolarity, B(E1), B(E1)/B(E2) ratios, configurations, rotational alignments. Comparison with predictions of the cranked shell model.
