Experimental M1 response of 40Ar as a benchmark for neutrino-nucleus scattering calculations

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 40Ar(polarized γ, γ'), E=4.44, 5.40, 5.65, 5.90, 6.10, 6.30, 6.50, 6.70, 6.90, 7.22, 7.55 MeV from High-Intensity γ-Ray Source (HIγS) at TUNL; measured Eγ, Iγ, azimuthal asymmetry using four HPGe detectors. 40Ar; deduced levels, J, π, integrated cross sections, lower limits for B(E1) and B(M1), average branching ratio to the first 2+ state, B(E1), B(M1), total M1 strength; results provide constraints on theoretical cross section of solar and supernova neutrinos with 40Ar. Comparison with large-scale shell model shell-model calculations for 1+ states in the sdfp space. Comparison with previous experimental results and evaluated data in the ENSDF database. Benchmarking of inelastic neutral current neutrino-nucleus scattering cross sections.
