Lifetime measurements in low yrast states and spectroscopic peculiarities in 182Os

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 174Yb(12C, 4n)182Os, E=66 MeV; measured Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin. 182Os; deduced levels, J, π, T1/2 of yrast 2+, 4+ and 6+ excited states, B(E2), quadrupole deformation parameter. Comparison to interacting boson model 1 (IBM-1) based calculations. Systematics of level energies for Os isotopes - 180,182,184,186Os and for N=106 isotones Hf, W, Os, Pt, Hg. Obtained values support the interpretation of 182Os as a rigid rotor. HORUS spectrometer equipped with 10 LaBr3(Ce) scintillators and 8 HPGe detectors at Cologne 10 MV FN-Tandem accelerator.

Investigation of γ softness: Lifetime measurements in 104, 106Ru

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 104Ru(18O, 18O), (18O, 16O), E=57 MeV; measured reaction products, Eγ, Iγ, (particle)γ-coin. 104,106Ru; deduced levels, J, π, T1/2 of low-lying excited states, B(E2), B(M1), shape invariants. Recoil-distance Doppler shift technique. Comparison to mapped-IBM calculation based on a microscopic energy density functional, to the values obtained with Wilets-Jean γ-soft model and to previous experimental data. Results indicate γ-softness and point on traixilaity in 104,106Ru. Cologne plunger device in conjunction with 11 HPGe detectors arranged in backward and forward rings combined with 6 PIN diodes for detecting the backscattered beam-like light recoiling fragments 10 MV FN-Tandem accelerator.

Experimental and theoretical (by IBM-1 model with SU(3) and X(5) limits) systematics of excitation energies, deformation parameter β, quadrupole moment, B(E2), E(first 4+)/E(first 2+), B(E2)(first 4+)/B(E2)(first 2+) for 168,170,172,174,176,178,180,182,184,186W.

Lifetimes and structures of low-lying negative-parity states of 209Po

RADIOACTIVITY 209At(EC), (β+)[from successive α and ϵ decay of 213Fr, produced in 206Pb(11B, 4n)213Fr, E=56 MeV at the FN-Tandem facility of University of Cologne]; measured Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin, level half-lives by γγ(t) fast-timing method and analyzed by generalized centroid difference (GCD) method using eight HPGe detectors and 12 LaBr scintillators, with six of these placed inside BGO anti-Compton shields. 209Po; deduced levels, J, π, B(M1), B(E2). Comparison with shell-model calculation using a microscopic effective interaction derived from the realistic CD-Bonn potential.

NUCLEAR STRUCTURE 209Po; calculated proton single-particle and neutron single-hole energies, levels, J, π, B(M1), B(E2), magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole moments, orbital composition and one-neutron pick-up spectroscopic factors of selected states, E2 matrix elements. Shell-model calculations with a realistic effective interaction derived from the CD-Bonn nucleon-nucleon potential within the framework of Q-box folded-diagram approach. Comparison with experimental data.

Quadrupole deformation of 130Xe measured in a Coulomb-excitation experiment

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 94Mo(130Xe, 130Xe'), E=4.195 MeV/nucleon from HIE-ISOLDE-CERN linear accelerator; measured projectile-and target-like particles using a segmented double-sided silicon strip detector (DSSSD), Eγ, Iγ, γ(θ) (particle)γ- and (particle)(particle)γ-coin using Miniball array of 23 HPGe detectors. Measured Coulomb excitation yields analyzed using GOSIA least-squares fitting code. 130Xe; deduced levels, J, π, E2 and M1 matrix elements, B(E2), B(M1), spectroscopic quadrupole moments (Q) for the first 2+ and 4+ states and second 2+ state, and shape parameters for the 0+ ground state. Comparison with previous experimental data, and with several theoretical model calculations.

NUCLEAR STRUCTURE 130Xe; calculated levels, J, π using general Bohr Hamiltonian with the mean-field theory and Universal Nuclear Energy Density Functional (UNEDF0), shell-model with the GCN50:82 and SN100PN interactions, Davydov-Filippov and γ-soft phenomenological models; calculated quadrupole shape invariants for 0+ ground state and the first 2+ state using general Bohr Hamiltonian (GBH) model. Comparison with experimental data.

Yrast band moments of inertia and B(E2) compared with published values for 164,166,168,170Yb; deduced indication for reduced collectivity at low spin unexplained by available calculations.

Shape coexistence in neutron-deficient Hg isotopes studied via lifetime measurements in 184, 186Hg and two-state mixing calculations

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 148Sm(40Ar, 4n), E=200 MeV; 150Sm(40Ar, 4n), E=195 MeV; measured Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin, level half-lives by RDDS method using Gammasphere and Cologne plunger device at ATLAS-ANL facility. 184,186Hg; deduced levels, B(E2), transitional quadrupole moments, shape coexistence, deformation for normal and intruder bands. Comparison with two-state mixing model calculations. Systematics of yrast bands in even A=172-204 Hg isotopes.

NUCLEAR STRUCTURE 180,182,184,186,188Hg; calculated rotational bands built on first two 0+ states, B(E2), wavefunction amplitudes using two-state mixing in VMI model.

Coulomb excitation of neutron-rich Cd isotopes

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 108Pd(122Cd, 122Cd'), 64Zn, 104Pd(124Cd, 124Cd'), 64Zn(126Cd, 126Cd'), E=2.85 MeV/nucleon, [secondary 122,124,126Cd beams from 238U(p, X), E=1.2 GeV primary reaction]; measured Eγ, Iγ, particle spectra, γγ-, (particle)γ-coin, γ-ray yields, γ(θ), σ(θ), half-life of first 2+ state of 126Cd by DSAM using REXTRAP and EBIS setup, Miniball array for γ rays and DSSDs for particle detection at REX-ISOLDE-CERN facility. 122,124,126Cd; deduced levels, Coulomb-excitation σ, transition and diagonal matrix elements, static quadrupole moments, and B(E2) for first 2+ states. Comparison with shell model and beyond mean field calculations. Discussed onset of collectivity in the vicinity of Z=50 and N=82 shell closures. Systematics of experimental and theoretical values of B(E2) for first 2+ states in A=116-130 even Cd isotopes.

Lifetime measurements of the yrast 8+ and 9+ states in 70As

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 9Be(78Rb, 70As), E=101.6 MeV/nucleon, [secondary 78Rb beam from 9Be(78Kr, X), E=150 MeV/nucleon primary reaction]; measured Doppler corrected Eγ, Iγ, γγ-, (70As)γ-coin, level half-lives by line-shape analysis using A1900 fragment separator, S-800 spectrometer, and SeGA array at NSCL-MSU facility. 70As; deduced levels, J, π, B(E1), B(M1), configuration. Comparison of B(M1) values for 66Ga, 70As, 74Br, 78Rb and 82Y with predictions of particle-vibration coupling model.
