Unbound excited states of the N=16 closed shell nucleus ²⁴O

NUCLEAR REACTIONS ⁹Be(²⁶F, ²⁴O), E=76 MeV/nucleon, [secondary ²⁶F beam from ⁹Be(⁴⁸Ca, X), E=140 MeV/nucleon primary reaction]; measured charged-particle spectra, E(n), I(n), (²³O)n-coin using MONA-LISA array at NSCL-MSU. ²⁴O; deduced decay energy spectrum, levels, J, π, difference between the first 2+ and 1+ states. Comparison with previous experimental results and theoretical calculations.

Competing single-particle and collective behavior in ⁷¹Se

NUCLEAR REACTIONS ⁵⁴Fe(²³Na, npα), E=80 MeV; measured Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin, DCO, level half-lives by Doppler-shift attenuation method. ⁷¹Se; deduced high-spin levels, J, π, multipolarities, bands, B(E2), transition quadrupole moments, moment of inertia plots; calculated total Routhian surfaces in β₂-γ plane using cranked Woods-Saxon (CWS) calculations. Shape competition and γ softness.
