Toward the limit of nuclear binding on the N=Z line: Spectroscopy of 96Cd

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 9Be(124Xe, X), E=345 MeV/nucleon; measured delayed γ-spectrum, Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin, half-life of an isomeric state using BigRIPS separator, silicon active stopper for particle identification, and EURICA Ge detector array for γ detection at RIBF-RIKEN. 96Cd; deduced levels, isomer, J, π, configuration, medium-spin negative-parity spin trap based on the coupling of isoscalar T=0 and isovector T=1 neutron-proton pairs. Comparison with shell model calculations using GF, LSSM, and r3g model spaces.
