Fusion and proton transfer in the 10B + 27Al system at sub-barrier energies

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 27Al(10B, 2n)35Ar, (10B, p)36Cl, (10B, np)35Cl, (10B, 2np)34Cl, (10B, 2p)35S, (10B, n2p)34S, (10B, α)33S, (10B, nα)32S, (10B, pα)32P, (10B, npα)31P, (10B, 2α)29Si, (10B, n2α)28Si, E=≈1.2-1.7 MeV/nucleon; measured Eγ, Iγ total σ(E), total fusion σ(E), evaporation residue production σ(E) using an HPGe detector at the 6 MV Tandem accelerator of ININ-Mexico; deduced level density parameter, astrophysical S factor, impact on σ(E) with the inclusion of coupling of low lying excited states of projectile and target; compiled previous experimental reduced total fusion σ(E) as function of reduced energy for 6,7Li+24Mg, 7Li+27Al, 9Be+27Al, 10B+27Al, 19F+19F, and 16,17,18O+27Al systems, benchmarking universal fusion function (UFF). Comparison with statistical Hauser-Feshbach calculations using PACE2 code, coupled-channel method using CCFULL code, one-dimensional barrier penetration model (1DBPM), and DWBA calculations for proton-transfer using FRESCO code.

Strong coupling effect in the elastic scattering of the 10C + 58Ni system near barrier

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 58Ni(10C, 10C), (10C, 10C'), (10C, X)4He/7Li/7Be/10B/10C/12N, E=35.3 MeV, [secondary 10C beam from 3He(10B, 10C), E=54.0 MeV primary reaction at the Nuclear Science Laboratory of Notre Dame]; measured reaction products, particle identification spectrum, scattered 10C particles using three ΔE-E telescopes with silicon planar detectors, σ(θ); deduced differential σ; the results analyzed via coupled-channels, coupled-reaction-channels, and continuum-discretized coupled-channels (CDCC) calculations, with the consideration of 9B+p and 6Be+α channels as cluster configurations for the 10C projectile in CDCC approach. The 2+ inelastic transition in 10C in the projectile shown to be of crucial importance in describing the cross section data.

Sub-barrier fusion of weakly bound 6Li with 58Ni

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 58Ni(6Li, X), E=10.8, 11.5, 12.7, 13.2, 13.7, 14.4 MeV, [secondary pure 6Li beam from 3He(6Li, 6Li), E=31-38 MeV reaction]; measured σ(θ, E) for evaporated protons at the University of Notre Dame FN tandem accelerator facility; deduced proton multiplicities, fusion σ(E) and total reaction σ(E). Proton angular distributions compared with statistical model calculations using PACE2 code. Comparison of fusion σ(E) data with previous experimental data for this reaction and for the 6Li+59Co, 6Li+64Zn, and 6Li+64Ni systems. Comparison with theoretical calculations using one-dimensional barrier penetration model (BPM) and coupled-channel (CC) method using optical model potentials.

8B + 27Al scattering at low energies

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 27Al(8B, 8B), (8B, X), E=15.3, 21.7 MeV, [8B secondary beam from 3He(6Li, X), E=26.5, 32.5 MeV primary reaction]; measured scattered particle spectra, σ(θ, E) at Radioactive Ion Beams in Brasil facility (RIBRAS), and at TwinSol facility at the University of Notre Dame; deduced total reaction cross sections and compared with reduced cross sections for 7,9Be, 6,7Li, 6He and 16O projectiles on 27Al target, effect of breakup plus transfer channels on the total reaction cross sections. Optical model analysis using standard double-folding Sao Paulo potential and Woods-Saxon shape, and continuum discretized coupled channels (CDCC) calculations.

Near- and sub-barrier fusion of the 7Be + 58Ni system

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 58Ni(7Be, X), E=16.4, 17.5, 19.4, 20.1, 20.9, 21.9 MeV; measured evaporated proton spectra, σ(E) for protons at Notre Dame TwinSol Radioactive Nuclear Beam facility and FM tandem accelerator; deduced total fusion σ(E) using proton multiplicities. Comparison with predictions of Wong's one-dimensional barrier-penetration model (BPM), and optical model potential (OMP). Comparison with previous experimental results for fusion σ(E) in 27Al(7Be, X), and fission σ(E) in 238U(7Be, F).

Optical model analysis using the double-folding Sao Paulo and phenomenological Woods-Saxon and Sao Paulo potentials. Analysis of data obtained for 27Al, 197Au(8B, 8B) reactions in progress.
