Strength of the scissors mode in odd-mass Gd isotopes from the radiative capture of resonance neutrons

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 152,154,156,158Gd(n, γ), E<1 MeV white neutron spectrum; measured multistep cascade (MSC) γ spectra for different multiplicities and several resolved s-wave resonances using DANCE array at LANSCE, LANL facility; deduced E1 and M1 photon strength functions, level density. GEANT4-based simulations. Comparison with several model calculations of photon strength functions (PSF) and nuclear level densities (NLD) for deformed nuclei, and with experimental data from other reactions. Discussed scissors mode in odd-A Gd isotopes from summed reduced M1 strengths. Evidence of odd-even effect in strength of scissors mode.
