Coexisting single-particle excitations and octupole correlations in the transitional nucleus 217Ra

NUCLEAR STRUCTURE 208Pb(12C, 3n)217Ra, E=68, 72, 80 MeV; measured Eγ, Iγ, X-rays, γγ-coin, γγ(θ). 217Ra; deduced levels, J, π δ, high-spin states, ratios of directional correlations of oriented states (DCO ratios), transition polarization asymmetry, linear polarization, cumulative T1/2 of the 2301- and 2394-keV states, configurations, bands structure and energy splittings. Comparison to theoretical calculations using reflection-asymmetric triaxial particle rotor model (RAT-PRM). From features of the simplex bands suggested that 217Ra exhibits an intermediate behavior between the extremes of spherical and octupole-deformed nuclei. Systematics of energy splittings and B(E1)/B(E2) ratios for 216Fr, 217Ra, 218Ac, 219Th, 232Th. Indian National Gamma Array (INGA) comprising of 13 Compton suppressed clover detectors and one low-energy photon spectrometer (LEPS) at 15UD Pelletron accelerator of Inter-University Accelerator Centre (New Delhi).

High-spin spectroscopy in 207At: Evidence of a 29/2+ isomeric state

Deduced high-spin levels, J, π, bands, multipolarities, new high-spin isomer, and configurations. Comparison with large-scale shell model calculations using KHM3Y effective interaction. Systematics of energies low-lying states in 116,118,120,122,126At and 116,118,120,122,126Po, and B(E3) in At isotopes. Systematics of energies of 13/2+ states in 199,201,203,205,207At.

Low-spin levels in 140Sm: Five 0+ states and the question of softness against nonaxial deformation

RADIOACTIVITY 140Eu(EC), (β+)[from decay of 140Gd produced in 104Pd(40Ar, X), E=210 MeV from the U-200P cyclotron of University of Warsaw]; measured Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin, γγ(θ) using EAGLE array of 12 Compton-suppressed HPGe detectors. 140Sm; deduced levels, J, π, multipolarities, B(E2) ratios. Comparison with full five-dimensional microscopic General Bohr Hamiltonian (GBH) and phenomenological gamma-soft Warsaw model calculations.

NUCLEAR STRUCTURE 140Sm; calculated potential energy surface (PES) in (β, γ) plane using the SLy4 Skyrme interaction and seniority-type pairing, levels, J, π, probability distributions for the five lowest 0+ states in the phenomenological and microscopic models, quadrupole invariants using full five-dimensional microscopic General Bohr Hamiltonian (GBH) and phenomenological gamma-soft Warsaw model calculations. Comparison with experimental data.

Results compared to statistical model calculations using ALICE-91 code, and to the previous experimental studies using 51V target and 12C, 16O and 20Ne projectiles. Experiment carried out using the 15UD Pelletron accelerator at the Inter-University Accelerator Center (IUAC), New Delhi.

Evidence of Rotational Behaviour in 120Te Isotope

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 120Te(32S, x), E=90 MeV; measured 120Te recoils after Coulomb excitation Eγ, Iγ, (particle)γ-coin within 200 ns window using EAGLE array consisting of 15 HPGe detectors with anti-Compton BGO shields and a compact Coulex chamber with 48 PIN diodes for detection of back-scattered 32S ions; deduced multi-step Coulomb excitation of 120Te up to 4+ state in the gs band and to second 0+ and 2+ states; deduced background-subtracted Doppler-shift-corrected γ-ray energy spectrum summed over all EAGLE detectors for 32S+120Te system at 90 MeV, E2 matrix elements, B(E2), spectroscopic quadrupole moments; calculated E2 matrix elements, B(E2) using the GOSIA code; compared with Davydov-Fillipov and IBM-2 models calculations and with data.

No evidence of reduced collectivity in Coulomb-excited Sn isotopes

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 112,116,118,120,122,124Sn(58Ni, 58Ni'), E=175 MeV; measured scattered projectiles and recoils from Coulomb excitation using annular gas-filled parallel-plate avalanche counter (PPAC), Eγ and Iγ, (particle)γ-coin using four Clover Ge detectors for γ detection at the IUAC-New Delhi tandem accelerator facility. 112,116,118,120,122,124Sn; deduced first 2+ levels, γ-ray yields, Coulomb excitation cross sections, and B(E2) for the first 2+ states using Winther and de Boer COULEX code. 114Sn; re-evaluated B(E2) for the first 2+ state. Comparison with recent experimental results for B(E2) from Coulomb excitation and DSAM techniques.
