Neutron background measurements with a hybrid neutron detector at the Kuo-Sheng Reactor Neutrino Laboratory

RADIOACTIVITY 212Bi(β-)[from 232Th decay in the background]; 212,218Po, 222Rn(α)[from 232Th and 238U in the background]; measured βα-coin and αα-coin events. 232Th, 238U; estimated contributions from their decays in the background spectra for neutrino measurements. 68Ga, 68,71Ge(EC)[from thermal neutron capture in 70Ge]; measured Eγ and Iγ; deduced contribution to background spectra of neutrino measurements. In situ measurements of neutron-induced background at the Kuo-Sheng Reactor Neutrino Laboratory (KSNL) using a Hybrid Neutron Detector (HND), with and without cosmic ray and anti-Compton veto detectors, and under identical active and passive shielding configurations for the neutrino measurements.
