Neutron background measurements with a hybrid neutron detector at the Kuo-Sheng Reactor Neutrino Laboratory

RADIOACTIVITY ²¹²Bi(β^-)[from ²³²Th decay in the background]; ^212,218Po, ²²²Rn(α)[from ²³²Th and ²³⁸U in the background]; measured βα-coin and αα-coin events. ²³²Th, ²³⁸U; estimated contributions from their decays in the background spectra for neutrino measurements. ⁶⁸Ga, ^68,71Ge(EC)[from thermal neutron capture in ⁷⁰Ge]; measured Eγ and Iγ; deduced contribution to background spectra of neutrino measurements. In situ measurements of neutron-induced background at the Kuo-Sheng Reactor Neutrino Laboratory (KSNL) using a Hybrid Neutron Detector (HND), with and without cosmic ray and anti-Compton veto detectors, and under identical active and passive shielding configurations for the neutrino measurements.
