New precise half-life measurement for the superallowed β+ emitter 34Ar

RADIOACTIVITY 34Ar(β+) [from 1H(35Cl, 2n), E=30 MeV/nucleon at the K500 superconducting cyclotron of Texas A and M University, followed by separation of fragments using the Momentum Achromat Recoil Spectrometer (MARS)]; measured Eβ, decay time spectrum, precise T1/2 of 34Ar decay using 4π proportional gas counter; deduced ft value for the superallowed β transition. Data analyzed as a linked parent-daughter pair. Discussed uncertainty budget. Comparison with previous experimental results.

Precise β branching-ratio measurement for the 0+ → 0+ superallowed decay of 34Ar

RADIOACTIVITY 34Ar(β+), (EC)[from 1H(35Cl, 2n), E=30 MeV/nucleon, followed by separation of fully stripped reaction ejectiles using the MARS spectrometer at the K500 superconducting cyclotron at Texas A and M University]; measured Eβ+, Iβ+, Eγ, Iγ, β+γ-coin. 34Cl; deduced levels, J, π, β-branching ratio, EC to β+ emission ratios, logft, superallowed 0+ to 0+ β transition, isospin-symmetry-breaking correction, ratios of ft values for the mirror pair of superallowed transitions 34Ar to 34Cl and 34Cl to 34S. Comparison with previous experimental data, and with shell model calculations with Woods-Saxon radial wave functions. Systematics of logft ratios in A=26, 34, 38 and 42 mirror pairs. Relevance to up-down quark-mixing element Vud of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix.

Intensity of a weak 519-keV γ ray following β decay of the superallowed emitter 34Ar determined via the 33S(p, γ)34Cl reaction

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 33S(p, γ)34Cl, E=1072 keV; measured Eγ, Iγ, and γγ-coin using GEORGINA array of five Ge detectors at the Pelletron accelerator of University of Notre Dame. 34Cl; deduced γ-branching ratios from the 666-keV level, in particular for the 519-keV γ ray following β+ decay of the superallowed emitter 34Ar. Comparison of the branching ratios with previous experimental results, and theoretical calculations.

RADIOACTIVITY 26Si(β+), (EC)[from 1H(27Al, 2n), E=30 MeV/nucleon from the Texas A and M University K500 superconducting cyclotron, followed by analysis of reaction products by MARS system according to A/Q ratio]; measured β+ particles, Eγ, Iγ, β+γ-coin using plastic scintillator for β+ detection and HPGe detector for γ detection. 26Al; deduced levels, β++ϵ branching ratios, Gamow-Teller branches, superallowed (0+ to 0+) decay branch, logft, Ft. Comparison with sd shell-model calculations using USD, USD-A, and USD-B effective interactions. Discussed relevance to determination of up-down Vud quark-mixing element of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix.

Relevance to determination of up-down element of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa quark-mixing matrix Vud for 0+ to 0+ superallowed β transition in the decay of 30S to 30P.

Precise measurement of αK for the 65.7-keV M4 transition in 119Sn: Extended test of internal-conversion theory

RADIOACTIVITY 119Sn(IT)[from 118Sn(n, γ)]; measured Eγ, Iγ, E(x rays), I(x rays); deduced K-shell internal conversion coefficient of 65.7-keV M4 transition. Comparisons with theoretical conversion coefficient from Dirac-Fock relativistic calculation with and without K-shell atomic vacancy, and with previous measurements.Evidence of support for inclusion of atomic vacancy from comparison of precisely measured conversion coefficients with theoretical calculations for E2, E3 and M4 isomeric transitions in 20 cases including 119Sn, 134Cs, 137Ba, 193Ir and 197Pt.
