Precise half-life measurement of the superallowed emitter ³⁰S

RADIOACTIVITY ³⁰S(β⁺), (EC)[from ¹H(³¹P, 2n), E=30 MeV/nucleon]; ³⁰P(β⁺), (EC)[from ³⁰S decay]; measured β⁺ using 4π proportional gas counter, half-lives of ³⁰S and ³⁰P decays. Comparison with previous measurements. Relevance to determination of up-down element of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa quark-mixing matrix V_ud for 0+ to 0+ superallowed β transition in the decay of ³⁰S to ³⁰P.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS ¹H(³¹P, 2n)²⁷Si/²⁹P/³⁰S/³¹S, E=30 MeV/nucleon; measured yields of ions momentum achromat recoil spectrometer (MARS) spectrometer at Texas A and M University K500 superconducting cyclotron facility.
