Potassium-39-derived ³⁶Ar production during fission-neutron irradiation and its effect on ⁴⁰Ar/³⁹Ar ages

RADIOACTIVITY ³⁶Cl, ³⁹Ar(β^-) [from ³⁹K(n, α), (n, p), E thermal]; analyzed available data; deduced production ratio for ³⁶Cl/³⁹Ar reaction using a ²³⁵U fission spectrum modeled at Cadmium Lined In Core Irradiation Tube (CLICIT) irradiation facility, as used in the Oregon State TRIGA Reactor (OSTR) with GEANT4 code and ENDF/B-VIII.0 evaluated nuclear data library.

Evidence for ground-state electron capture of ⁴⁰K

RADIOACTIVITY ⁴⁰K(EC); measured decay products, X-rays, Eγ, Iγ; deduced EC⁰/EC^* relative branching ratios to the ground state and excited state of ⁴⁰Ar, T_1/2, decay scheme. First experimental verification of a third-forbidden unique transition. Discussed the impact of found evidence of the ⁴⁰K decay to the ground-sate on the geochronology and nuclear theory. Comparison to theoretical estimations. Sensitive x-ray silicon drift detector (SDD) and Modular Total Absorption Spectrometer (MTAS).
