Deformation effects on isoscalar giant resonances in 24Mg

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 24Mg(α, α), (α, α'), E=386 MeV; measured Eα, Iα, σ(θ) using Grand Raiden magnetic spectrometer, position-sensitive multiwire drift chambers (MWDCs) and plastic scintillators at RCNP-Osaka facility. DWBA analysis. 24Mg; deduced levels, isoscalar giant resonances, l-transfers, widths, strength distributions for isoscalar giant monopole resonance (ISGMR), isoscalar giant dipole resonance (ISGDR) and isoscalar giant quadrupole resonance (ISGQR), K-splitting of ISGMR and ISGQR, energy-weighted sum rules (EWSR). Comparison with calculations based on self-consistent solution of deformed HFB and QRPA equations using Skyrme SkM* functionals for a prolate-deformed ground state in 24Mg and compared with those expected for a spherical ground state.

Effect of ground-state deformation on isoscalar giant resonances in 28Si

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 28Si(α, α), (α, α'), E=386 MeV; measured Eα, Iα, σ(θ) for g.s., first 2+ state and giant resonances using Grand Raiden magnetic spectrometer at RCNP-Osaka cyclotron facility. 28Si; deduced isoscalar giant (ISGMR, ISGQR, ISGDR, ISGOR) resonances, L-transfers, widths, strength distributions, evidence of the effect of ground-state deformation of 28Si on strength distributions. Multipole-decomposition (MDA fits), and optical model analyses. Comparison with axially deformed Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) and the QRPA using the Skyrme energy-density functional (EDF).
