Measurement of γ rays from giant resonances excited by the 12C(p, p') reaction at 392 MeV and 0 degrees

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 12C(p, p')12C, E=392 MeV; measured Eγ, Iγ, Ep, Ip, pγ-coin, σ(θ) from 0-3.5° using magnetic spectrometer Grand Raiden and NaI(Tl) detectors at the Research Center for Nuclear Physics (RCNP), Osaka University, Japan; deduced differential cross section, γ-ray emission probability; cross section decomposed into spin-flip and non-spin-flip components. Angular distributions compared with DWBA calculations. 12C; deduced levels, resonances in the 16-32 MeV range, J, π, widths, σ, γ-ray spectra from giant resonances in 12C. 11B, 11C; deduced levels, J, π, γ-ray energies and emission probabilities in daughter nuclei 11B and 11C populated from the decay of 12C resonances. Comparison of the measured γ-ray emission probabilities with statistical model calculation based on the Hauser-Feshbach formalism.
