Decay branching ratios of excited 24Mg

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 24Mg(α, α'), E=40 MeV; measured decay products identified by outgoing α particles, protons and γ rays from the resulting 20Ne, 23Na, and 23Mg daughters, (particle)(particle)-coin, αγ-coin using the STARLiTeR detector array at Texas A and M K150 cyclotron facility; deduced branching ratios for α-, proton- and neutron-emitting channels from the decay of unbound states in 24Mg. Possible surrogate reaction for 12C(12C, α)20Ne, 12C(12C, p)23Na, 12C(12C, n)23Mg reactions of astrophysical interest. 20Ne, 23Na, 23Mg; deduced levels populated by the decay of excited states of 24Mg.

Nuclear excitation by electronic transition of 235U

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 235U(e, e'), E=low; measured decay spectra and half-lives from possible excitation of ≈26 min-235mU isomer at 76 eV by nuclear excitation by electronic transition (NEET) process; deduced no evidence for occurrence of NEET, upper limit determined. Used natural, depleted, and enriched uranium samples. Reviewed previous NEET experiments on 235U.

RADIOACTIVITY 235mU(IT)[from 239Pu(α)]; measured half-life of the decay of 235mU isomer at 76 eV by collecting uranium recoils in argon gas.

Determining the 239Np(n, f) cross section using the surrogate ratio method

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 236,238U(3He, pF), E=29 MeV; measured proton, deuteron, triton, 3,4He spectra, fission events, fission anisotropies, particle-fission time-to-amplitude spectrum, (fission)p-coin using STARS array at LBNL cyclotron facility. 239Np(n, F), E=0.5-20 MeV; deduced cross section by surrogate ratio method. Comparison with ENDF/B-VII.0, JENDL-4.0, and CENDL-3.1 evaluated libraries. Impact on estimate of 240Pu produced during fuel burnup in calculations using reactor codes.
