Expansion of the surrogate method to measure the prompt fission neutron multiplicity for 241Pu

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 242Pu(α, α'), (α, F), E=53.96 MeV; measured scattered α particles and other reaction products, neutrons, light charged particles p, d, t, 3He, α(fission fragment)- and αn-coin using the NeutronSTARS array for charged particle and neutron detection at the Cyclotron Institute of Texas A and M University. 241Pu(n, F), E<20 MeV; deduced average neutron multiplicity, and derived neutron multiplicity moments as a function of equivalent neutron energy using the surrogate method. Comparison with previous experimental values.

Determining the average prompt-fission-neutron multiplicity for 239Pu(n, f) via a 240Pu(α, α' f) surrogate reaction

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 240Pu(α, α'F), E=53.9 MeV; measured fission fragments, charged particles, scattered α particles, Eα, Iα, E(n), I(n), α(fission fragment)- and αn(fission fragment)-coin using the NeutronSTARS array and NeutronBall at the K150 Cyclotron facility of Texas A and M University; deduced particle-identification plot for p, d, t, 3He and α particles. 239Pu(n, F), E=0.25-26.25 MeV; deduced average prompt-fission-neutron multiplicity using the results from surrogate reaction 240Pu(α, a°F). Comparison with previous experimental results from direct measurements.
