Measurement of the 1S0 neutron-neutron effective range in neutron-deuteron breakup

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 2H(n, X), E<18 MeV; measured reaction products, En, In; deduced σ(θ, E), neutron-neutron effective range parameter from neutron-neutron quasifree scattering in neutron-deuteron breakup. The tandem accelerator facility at the Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory.

Neutron-neutron quasifree scattering in neutron-deuteron breakup at 10 MeV

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 2H(n, 2n), E=10.0 MeV; measured En, In, nn-coin, and differential σ(θ) of neutron-neutron quasi-free scattering (QSF) in neutron-deuteron breakup using isotopically enriched deuterated polyethylene CD2 target, and neutron time-of-flight technique for neutrons detected using liquid scintillator detectors at TUNL; deduced deuteron breakup cross section. Comparison with few-nucleon calculations using CD Bonn nuclear potential in the Faddeev formalism.

Cross-section measurements of 2H(n, np)n in symmetric star configurations

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 2H(n, np), E=16, 19 MeV; measured particle spectra, time-of-flight, np-coin, σ in space-star (SST) and coplanar star (CST) neutron-deuteron breakup configurations. Comparison with Monte Carlo simulations based on rigorous three-nucleon Faddeev calculations. Discussed discrepancies between data and theory; deficiencies in theoretical treatment of three-nucleon forces or in knowledge of the neutron-neutron 1S0 force.
