The K = 200 separated sector cyclotron of iThemba LABS using a high-energy resolution, high-efficiency detection array composed of 8 Compton-suppressed clover detectors comprising 32 HP-Ge crystals for recording the γ-ray energy spectra.

Comparison to theoretical predictions using the code TALYS, with modified optical model potential (OMP) parameters deformation parameters, and level density parameters. 24Mg(p, p'), E=49.5 MeV; 28Si(p, p'), E=65 MeV; 56Fe(p, p'), E=30, 65 MeV; analyzed σ(θ) data in literature using OPTMAN code; deduced optical potential model parameters, deformation parameters β2, β4 and γ. Comparison with γ-ray cross section data in literature. Discussed astrophysical implications of results of present experiment through TALYS calculation of γ-ray line emission spectra over the photon energy range of 0.1-10 MeV, expected to be generated in interactions of the low-energy cosmic rays (LECRs) in the inner Galaxy.

Nonlocal, finite-range (FR)-distorted-wave Born approximation (DWBA) analysis of cross section data. 8Be; deduced levels, J, π, isospin, absolute and partial spectroscopic factors. Comparison with previous experimental results, and with shell-model calculations. Relevance to 7Li(p, α)4He hydrogen burning in astrophysical applications.
