Abstract

The Bloch-Brink microscopic α-cluster model is used to investigate the structure of the positive and negative parity yrast bands of Ti44. Unlike the resonating group method or the local potential model, we approximate the wave function of Ti44 by an intrinsic configuration which is obtained from a variational principle. States with good angular momenta are constructed using angular momentum projection techniques. The wave function is completely antisymmetrized and the center of mass motion is treated properly. The calculated E2 transition strengths reproduce experiment very well, but the energy spectra are in a poor agreement with the data. © 1996 The American Physical Society.
