Alpha particle transfer reaction C12(11B,7Li)16O and lack of evidence for a tetrahedral shape of the O16 nucleus

Abstract

Angular distributions of the alpha particle transfer reaction C12(11B,7Li)16O were measured for 28, 35, 40, 50, 56, 60, and 80 MeV beam energies. Exact finite range distorted-wave Born approximation (DWBA) analysis was performed for eight states of O16: ground state, 6.13 MeV (3), 6.92 MeV (2+), 10.36 MeV (4+), 11.10 MeV (4+), 14.82 MeV (6+), 16.28 MeV (6+), and 20.86 MeV (7). Values of spectroscopic factors were extracted. For low lying states they agree well with theoretical shell model predictions. No evidence for tetrahedral deformation of the O16 ground state was found.
