Abstract

A relativistic study of the process of K-shell auto-ionization is presented. The direct collision mechanism is re-examined for nuclei with relatively high beta -decay end-point energies. The contribution of this mechanism is shown to be sufficiently large and may reach 50% for some nuclei. The calculated value of the total probability is compared to available experimental data.
