Abstract

The neutron total cross section for Ar40 has been measured over the incident neutron energy range 0.007–50 MeV. R-matrix analysis of the cross section from 0.007 to 1.52 MeV provides resonance parameters which provide a complete description of the neutron scattering functions for the s1/2, p1/2, and p3/2 scattering channels and less nearly complete scattering functions for the d3/2 and d5/2 channels. The back-shifted Fermi-gas model is used to model the level densities for s-, p-, and d-wave resonances.
