Abstract

A hybrid random-phase-approximation–cluster model is developed and applied to the calculation of the dipole response of Li11. A strong collective state at 1.81 MeV is found. Its width is predicted to be ≊4.0 MeV. The electromagnetic excitation cross section was found to be 700 mb for Li11+208Pb (E=800 MeV/nucleon), close to the experimental result.
