Measurement of the He3(n,γ)4He cross section at thermal neutron energies

Abstract

We have measured the cross section for radiative capture of thermal neutrons on He3. The measured cross section of 54±6 μb is used to estimate the astrophysical S factor for the reaction He3(p,e+ν)4He which gives rise to high-energy neutrinos from the Sun.
