Abstract
The nature of the first band crossing in the heavy rare-earth region is an important open spectroscopic problem. Both h(9/2 protons and i(13/2 neutrons are likely to be responsible for this phenomenon. The results of a double blocking experiment in strongly suggest that in fact a pair of h(9/2 protons and of i(13/2 neutrons are simultaneously playing a role.
