Abstract
The possibility of spin-spin effects that are generated by the static quadrupole moments of two strongly deformed nuclei is investigated. Spin-spin total reaction cross sections for the system LiB at energies 38 MeV are obtained in coupled-channels calculations which include all the possible sequential and mutual reorientation couplings to the two nuclei in the elastic channel. The values of obtained are relatively very small, indicating that spin-spin effects of static nuclear deformation are not important for heavy ions.
