Abstract

Excitation functions for the scattering of ¹⁶O from ²⁴Mg with excitation energies (E_x) up to 8.4 MeV are reported for theta _lab=19.5 degrees and 33.6 MeV<or=E_CM<or=49.2 MeV. Strong energy dependence is observed for states above 8 MeV excitation. Coupled-channels calculations, which predict smooth energy variations, give good agreement with the data only for E_x<8 MeV.
