Abstract

For the inelastic scattering of C13 from C12, we have calculated the population probability P1 for obtaining C*12(2+,4.44 MeV) with ‖m‖=1 and C13 in its ground state. Multistep processes involving the transfer of a neutron were able to produce values of P1 of comparable magnitude to the data. There was, however, considerable sensitivity to the optical parameters and this is discussed.
