Abstract

Strong spin-isospin mode isovector analog states were studied in differential cross section measurements (0.6q1.5 fm1) of the reaction C13(γ, π+)B13 up to 12 MeV excitation energy in B13. The photopion reaction predominantly excites M2 states at low q and M4 states at high q, with both peaking in the energy region 6-7 MeV in B13 (21-22 MeV in C13). The results are compared with predicted M2 and M4 relative strength distributions and also with the available data on radiative capture of stopped pions and inelastic electron scattering.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS C13(e, π+)B*13 (Ex=0, 3.5, 6.4, and 9 MeV), Ee=195 MeV; measured σ(θ), θ=30150°, Δθ=20°. Enriched target. Results compared to theoretical M2 and M4 strength distributions.
