Abstract

Measurements of the dependence on incident proton energy of the analyzing power Ay(θ) for pπ production on nuclei are reported for the Be9(p,π)C10 reaction leading to the ground state (g.s.) and the first three excited states of C10. For the transition to the g.s. the analyzing power shows little dependence on proton energy while for transitions leading to the C3.3510* and C6.6010* states it varies considerably with incident proton energy. Nuclear structure dependence of the Ay(θ) is also observed for the first time in pπ reactions.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS Be9(p, π)C10 measured Ay(θ) for Cg.s.10, C3.3510*, C5.2810* and C6.6010* transitions; Ep=200, 225, 250 MeV; calculated Y0(θ).
