Abstract

Virtual photon spectra, corrected for finite nuclear size and charge are used to evaluate integrated cross sections for the scattering of 60 MeV muons from C12, Ni58, Cu63, and Au197 nuclei. The ratios of the cross sections σ(μ, μ n) to σ(μ+, μ+, n) agree with the experiment1; the integrated cross sections individually are consistently a little less than experimental values.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS Muon scattering, virtual photon method, σ(μ+, μ+ n) for C12, Ni58, Cu63, Au197, and σ(μ, μ n) for C12, Cu63, Au197 at Eμ=60 MeV evaluated using second order Born approximation.
