Abstract

It is shown that B12 nuclei produced in the C12(n,p)B12 reaction are polarized. The polarization of B12 is measured through its beta-decay asymmetry. The analyzing "efficiency" ε=PNPn (B12 polarization versus that of the incident neutron) for longitudinally polarized neutrons of average energy E¯n=18 MeV is: |ε|=0.11±0.02.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS C12(n,p)B12(β) C12; En=18 MeV; measured β-decay asymmetry; deduced B12 polarization and analyzing efficiency.
