Abstract

Angular distributions and excitation functions for the elastic and inelastic (2+, 1.81 MeV) scattering of O16 ions by Mg26 have been measured in the energy range from 22 up to 50 MeV. The data were analyzed in the coupled channel scheme with different potentials. The inelastic scattering data are found to be important to distinguish between optical model parameter sets. The deformation parameter δn=βnR is extracted and found to be potential dependent. It is compared to the Coulomb deformation δC.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS Mg26(O16, O16), (O16, O16′). Measured: excitation functions 22-50 MeV, θc.m.=55° to 140°, angular distributions for g.s. and 2+, 1.81 MeV in Mg26. Coupled channel analysis, deduced βR. Enriched target. Kinematic coincidence.
