Abstract

The C12(He3, d)N13 stripping reaction has been studied at 43.6 MeV for all states of N13 up to 10.78 MeV. Reliable spectroscopic factors are extracted for the low-spin states. The 7.16 MeV (72+) and 7.38 MeV (52) states are shown to be populated by sequential scattering to the quadrupole states and d52 or p12 stripping in a rotational model. The data for a state at 9.0 MeV are shown to be accounted for within the same model for a 92+ spin assignment, confirming the results of pion scattering experiments to the analogous 9.50 MeV state in C13.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS C12(He3, d)N13, E3He=43.6 MeV, measured σ(θ, Ed), deduced spectroscopic factors, two-step reaction paths, spin of 9.0 MeV level.
