Levels in K44 via the Ca48(p,αn) reaction

Abstract

Excited levels in K44 have been populated via the Ca48(p,αn) reaction. From γγ coincidence measurements, the level and decay schemes have been obtained for K44, up to Ex=1368 keV, including several so far unobserved levels and transitions. No lifetime > ∼ 1 ns has been detected for any of these levels. A comparison is done with the neighboring even-A K46 isotope and with a simple shell model calculation to give a set of possible Jπ assignments.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS Ca48(p,αn)K44, E=1845 MeV; measured Eγ, σ(E,Eγ), γγ coin, pulsed beam electronic timing; deduced K44 levels and transitions, lifetime limits. Enriched target, Ge(Li) coax. and HP Ge.
