Abstract

Systematics of the |m|=1 population probability P1 of Mg24(2+) in the reaction Mg24(C13, C13′)Mg24(2+) were studied using the coupled channels formalism. It was found that P1 is sensitive only to the parameters of the spin-orbit potential and is determined essentially by the magnitude and the shape of the spin-orbit potential in the region of the strong absorption radius. The data require a significantly larger spin-orbit potential than that given by the folding model.
