Abstract

The inelastic scattering of 20-MeV vector-polarized deuterons from Mg24, Si28, S32, and Cr54 provides an experimental determination of sign and magnitude of the quadrupole mass transition amplitudes 21+||Qm||21+, 22+||Qm||22+, and 01+||Qm||22+22+||Qm||21+21+|×|Qm||01+, which correspond to the static quadrupole moments Q21+ and Q22+ and the P3 interference term in the case of electromagnetic transitions.
