Abstract

Scattered protons from Eu154 were measured with an Enge split-pole spectrograph at a bombarding energy of 12 MeV. Rotational states in the ground band of Eu154 were excited to Iπ=8. Values of the deformation parameters were extracted from the scattering data using a coupled-channels calculation. The analysis yields β2=0.30 and β4=0.04. A comparison of the ground band rotational properties of both Eu152 and Eu154 suggests that both nuclei have the same ground state configuration: π52[413], ν112[505].

NUCLEAR REACTIONS Eu154 (p,p), Ep=12 MeV; measured Ep and σ(θ), split-pole spectrograph; adiabatic coupled-channel analysis; deduced levels, Jπ, β2, and β4; isotopically enriched radioactive target.

NUCLEAR STRUCTURE Eu154, assigned Nilsson configuration.
